People often contact me to answer questions for a book or other projects. I’m lucky if they manage to use a couple sentences, quote me correctly, and I don’t sound like an idiot because of their indiscriminate editing.
The few exceptions are “We Were Going to Change the World: Interviews with Women from the 1970s and 1980s Southern California Punk Rock Scene” by Stacy Russo. Plus my interview in Alice Bag‘s interview series about Women in LA Punk on her site. I was the first interviewed, but appear last, due to the way her site displays information.
I am sharing some of these interviews because when I respond, I always write too much, but never all I want to say. You will hear my interview responses. Additionally, you will get never-shared extended memories, facts and True Tall Tales. All this is based on my research, photos, notes and sometimes what other people share with me.
I don’t feel comfortable naming the books. I might have dissed the author for taking my quotes out of context. I don’t want to create enemies because punk is fraught with enough rivalry and tension.
I spend a LOT of time preparing these podcasts, blog posts and yes, interview responses. It hurts deeply that I’m so misquoted. That’s why I started this series. So let’s move forward!
Enjoy!
